GSPARX is a wholly owned subsidiary of TNB that focuses on green retail generation business. At the moment, our focus is in the investment of rooftop Solar PV for all retail customers.
GSPARX offers a solution for customers interested in solar PV self-generation and selling the excess of solar energy under the Net Energy Metering Scheme (NEM).
We install solar PV system on your rooftop. the energy generated by solar will be used by your house to power all the electrical appliances. That means you buy less from TNB whenever sun is shining.
If there is an excess or balance of energy, it will automatically flow to TNB grid. And if package your installation with NEM, you will get credit for the excess energy to further reduce your bill. The rate of selling to TNB is the same rate as buying.
GSPARX is offering a package that include NEM where the house/building consumes the solar energy first and sell the excess to TNB and get credit for it.
We have 2 specific programs for customers:
a. Residential customers
For Residential customers, we offer a standard package ranging from 4.8kWp until 17.6kWp system. Nevertheless, we do cater for bigger size installation after site assessment is made.
There are 3 payment options available:
- Cash Purchase- pay lump sum amount
- Credit Card- We have a special 0% instalment plan up to 36 months.
- Personal Loan- Finance the PV system via personal loan. Choose your preferred bank.
b. Commercial & Industrial (C&I) customers
- For C&I customers, we have a special payment plan called SPPA.
- Key features of SPPA are:
- Investment will be done by GSPARX, hence ZERO Capex/ No upfront cost from the customer.
- Solar tariff will be discussed between customer and GSPARX. The intention is to offer lower tariff than the grid tariff, hence providing IMMEDIATE electricity cost savings for the customer.
- The solar tariff could be fixed throughout the tenure, hence provides hedging for future grid tariff increase.
- If there is additional energy expected to be supplied to the grid, we would highly recommend for the customer to sign up with Net Energy Meter program (NEM). Under NEM, the excess energy generated by solar and exported to the grid will be on a one-on-one offset i.e. no difference in the sale and purchase prices of electricity. You can read more about NEM at www.seda.gov.my
- Maintenance of Solar PV system will be taken care throughout contract period.
- Other payment plan i.e. cash is also available for C&I customers.
- Please register your interest at our website www.gsparx.com or at this link: http://bit.ly/gsparxcustomerservice We will contact you. Please be ready with your location and a snapshot of your bill. Availability of historical record of your electricity consumption would help a lot!
No. The program that you refer to is Feed-In Tariff (FIT). FiT allows customer to install on their rooftop and sell all energy produced to TNB and get paid for it. The Government has stopped offering new quota for Solar PV. Our product is packaged with NEM.
The concept of NEM is that the energy produced from the solar PV system installed will be consumed first, and any excess to be exported to the distribution licensee (such as TNB /SESB ).
The priority is for self-consumption, however some premises especially industry or manufacturing companies which may not be operating during the weekends may have excess energy exported to the grid.
In return, customers account will be credited at the prevailing customer rate based on the 1:1 NEM announced by the YB Minister earlier. The credit shall be allowed to roll over for a maximum of 24 months. Read more about NEM at SEDA website.
Yes, if the customer’s consumption pattern demonstrated significant potential for surplus to be transmitted to the grid, we highly encourage customer to sign up for NEM to maximize the benefit of installing solar PV. We will advise you accordingly on the NEM registration.
For customers with consumption pattern less likely to have potential surplus, NEM registration might not be required. However, we could register at customer’s request.
For residential customers, our package is inclusive of NEM. This is because for houses, the consumption of your house during weekdays/daytime is usually lower than what your solar PV system can produce. As such, with NEM, the excess energy that will automatically flow out to TNB grid will be compensated in terms of further credit to your bill.
In a simple terminology, in Malaysia, the Feed-In Tariff (FIT) scheme, allows the customers who is the Feed-in Approval Holders (FIAHs) to sell all electricity produced from Renewables resources to Distribution Licensee, such as TNB at the FiT rate.
In Net Energy Metering (NEM), on the other hand, the electricity produced by the solar PV system must be consumed first, and only excess can be exported to the grid at one to one rate.
You may read more about FIT and NEM at www.seda.gov.my
No, because at the moment the cost of the battery is high making it not commercially viable to install solar PV with battery. We are closely monitoring the price and as a GSPARX customer, you will be amongst the first group of customers to own the battery when it is commercially viable soon.
However, with NEM that allows you to sell excess energy to TNB and be paid at the same rate as you buy from TNB, TNB becomes your ‘battery’ and you save the investment on the storage unit.
For PV module, we only use Tier 1 PV module i.e. Q-cells and Jinko.
The final choice of brand equipment that we will install is subject to final design and site assessment.
We use only the leading brands in inverter technology such as Sungrow. We give a manufacturer warranty of 5 years. You can also opt for an extended warranty.

For domestic or residential consumers, the allowable maximum capacity of the PV system installed is 12 kWp for single phase system or 72 kWp for 3 phase system. however, in recommending the right size for your house, we will calculate based on your bill or monthly consumption. Next we will check the size of your rooftop that’s available for panel installation.
The last step is to affirm the system size by conducting site assessment in which we measure your rooftop and consider the condition of the roof.
At the moment, our package price ranges from RM18,900 (for 3kWp) to RM78,800 (for 15kWp) for an outright purchase. Please register your interest at our website www.gsparx.com or at this link: http://bit.ly/gsparxcustomerservice. Solar is a volume game, the more we get, the more attractive will be our offer.
Yes, you can as long as the total installed capacity is not more than 12kWp for single phase or 72kWp for 3 phase system.
It depends on your monthly bill, consumption pattern and the size of the installation. Indicative numbers can be derived from the saving table as shown by our brochure.
Our smallest system size is 3kW and that corresponds to a minimum bill of about RM90. To know how much you can save vs. how much does the solar PV system cost, you may refer to our brochure. You can then decide whether or not to install Solar PV system based on the saving and the investment required.
Besides cost considerations, it also depends on your motivation. One who is interested in being a green prosumer to generate clean energy might opt for the installation despite having to pay more that the savings achieved with the Solar PV system.

- Pay us (for outright and credit card) and we will install the system right away.
- For personal loan, we will only install once we receive the payment from your bank.
You could opt for the easy payment packages by selected credit card providers or personal loan that offers quite an attractive rate.
Definitely! You can put a down payment and reduce your monthly installment. We are flexible.
Comparison on total investment vs. savings indicates simple payback period of between 7-8 years.
At this moment, not yet.
For typical house in Malaysia the size varies between 2kW to 12kW. To understand how many panels or how big system size that can be installed on our rooftop, for every 1kW requires 3 panels with total size of 6sqm. Each panel is 2mx1m (2sqm)
Depends on the type of roof. If you have a flat roof, very likely most of the space is able to be utilized for solar PV. However, if you have a pitch roof, utilizing the whole roof area might not be productive since solar PV generation in Malaysia is optimized by facing south at a certain tilt angle. There are also installation facing east/west in the country. In conclusion, installation sizing should depend more on your consumption to be in line with NEM spirit of consumption first.
Yes you can. For residential, the maximum size is 12kW for single phase and 72kW for 3 phase. However, if you install more than your house consumption, you may run into risk of not utilizing your credit and after 24 months, the credit (i.e. the amount of ringgit TNB owes you) will be forfeited. Therefore, it is advisable to install based on your consumption level. Read more about this from SEDA website www.seda.gov.my
No. The excess energy generated by your Solar PV will flow to TNB Grid and with NEM you can get credit to further reduce your bill. The leasing arrangement is separate from NEM. You still have to pay for the leasing amount to GSPARX while your credit under NEM goes straight to deduct the amount in your TNB Bill.
Yes, you are advised to insured your house against fire risk causes by solar PV installation. You may add on as rider to your existing insurance policy.
We do not have solution for individual apartment for now. However, we do receive a lot of interest by the Joint Management Body (JMB) which is responsible for the common areas of high rise residences. We do have packages for the JMB that falls under the commercial tariff customers.
