NEM Announcement

Posted on 05 Feb 2025

The Malaysian government has recently made key updates to the Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 program. The quota for NEM Rakyat (residential sector) has been increased by 150MW to a total of 600MW, and the quota for NEM NOVA, targeting commercial and industrial consumers, has been expanded by 300MW to 1700MW. These enhancements aim to boost Malaysia's renewable energy efforts and accelerate its transition to a sustainable future.

The NEM 3.0 program has also been extended until June 2025, now including electricity consumers in the agriculture sector. Additionally, consumers with existing solar installations can expand their capacity and shift to the NEM program.

The Solar for Rakyat Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS), designed to encourage residential solar installations, has been extended until April 2025. This program offers rebates of up to RM4,000 for eligible customers who successfully commission their solar PV system installations. These incentives are aimed at reducing installation costs and promoting the adoption of solar energy in residential areas.
